Preventative Care

  • Cleanings | Dental cleanings are a way to control both gum disease and cavities. Plaque (a combination of food and bacteria) builds up around the teeth. Twice daily brushing helps control the build-up, but over time it can calcify into tartar or as we refer to in in dentistry, calculus. We can help remove that calculus with cleanings and educate you on how to maintain your teeth at home. Sometimes, patient may have bone loss develop and need a deep cleaning. This is a way to get under the gums and remove the calculus and create a clean root surface to better maintain your gum health

  • Check-ups | Regular check-ups are important not only for your dental health, but because it is a component in your overall health. Early detection of dental disease before it hurts is the best way to treat something when it is small.

  • Imaging | We use dental xrays as a tool to diagnose cavities especially between the teeth as well as to check bone levels and root end health. Bitewing xrays (between the back teeth) are recommended once a year and full mouth xrays are usually done every three to five years.

  • Fluoride treatment | Another tool we use for preventative care is the use of either topical fluorides (an in office treatment) or prescribed fluoride toothpaste. The fluoride helps to strengthen the enamel and prevent cavities from forming. We offer both fluoride varnish and fluoride foam for our in office treatment. The varnish is painted on and allows the patient to eat and drink right away. The foam does not leave a film like the varnish, but requires you waiting 30 minutes before eating. The prescribed toothpaste allows you to better control cavities from home and is a great option for patients with a dry mouth who are at more risk for cavities. We love having so many options for our patients to strengthen their teeth and we can choose the best approach for you.

Restorations

  • Tooth colored fillings | With dentistry continuing to modernize, options that are not silver or gold in color are available in one visit appointments. Composite "tooth colored" fillings and Glass Ionomer "fluoride releasing" fillings are used in our practice. We strive to approach restorations conservatively electing to maintained and support healthy tooth structure.

  • Crowns | Many patients ask about crowns and veneers when they come to our office. We offer All ceramic/porcelain crowns, porcelain and metal crowns, or full gold crowns. We work with you to choose the best treatment options for each patient based on their concerns and dental needs.

  • Bridges | When you lose a tooth, there are a variety of options for replacement. One option is placing a bridge. We use the teeth on either side of the space to create a “bridge” to fill the space. With bridges, it is important to floss under the bridge to avoid cavities.

Dentures

We offer full and partial dentures as one of our options for our patients in need of replacing teeth. Full dentures are supported by your tissues and sometimes require adhesive to stay put. Partial dentures use both your tissue and remaining teeth to support them. Dr. Jamie spent time training during her General Practice Residency to develop the skills to restore and transform her patient's smile with removable options. Did you know sleeping with dentures can cause you to develop a yeast infection on your tissues? Remember to always take your dentures our at night- your tissues need to breath and take a break just like you do.

Implants

Our office works closely with implant surgeons to restores a variety of implant scenarios to give our patients back their confidence and function when missing teeth. Dental implants are the placement of titanium posts into bone just like your teeth roots secure in bone. They need a little time to stabilize in your mouth while you heal before we can put a final crown or denture on the implants. We offer many temporary options while the implant is stabilizing. Implants are a great option to replace a single tooth without having to prepare the teeth on either side. Implants can also support prostheses that replace many teeth and stay permanently in the mouth. This option has made previous denture wearers excited to have something that stays fixed in the mouth.

Mouthguards

Do you have jaw muscle soreness in the morning? Does your partner mention that you grind your teeth at night? We offer custom night guards for patients suffering from TMJ disorders and nightly grinding to elevate pain and protect tooth structure. We work with a dental lab to adjust and customize nightguards just for your mouth and bite.
